Veteran, Military & First Responder Therapy Services in Nova Scotia

Specialized trauma therapy tailored for those who serve

We are passionate about helping currently serving and former members of the Canadian Armed Forces, RCMP, Police Services, Firefighters, Emergency Health Services, and others through our first responder therapy services. Our trauma-informed clinicians offer psychological and psychosocial assessments, as well as evidence-based therapy to support healing, resilience, and post-traumatic growth.

Services Designed for Veterans and First Responders

We provide specialized support through both clinical assessments and approved trauma-focused therapies recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO).

Our clinicians are experienced in working with military personnel and first responders and understand the unique systems and pressures that come with these roles.

Evidence-Based Trauma Therapies We Offer

01.

Prolonged

Exposure (PE)

Prolonged Exposure is a process of revisiting traumatic memories in a safe environment at a pace that is manageable for the client. The client and therapist work together to allow the brain-body system to acclimate and understand what the client has gone through.

02.

Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)

Cognitive Processing Therapy addresses changes in belief systems, including the client's views of the world, others, and themselves that can result from traumatic experiences. Skills and techniques are borrowed from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and applied specifically to trauma symptoms and beliefs.

03.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR is a non-traditional therapy in that does not include specific talking sequentially through traumatic memories. Instead, the client and therapist work on increasing awareness of body symptoms, breathing techniques and imagery that is associated with the traumatic event. This information is processed in a safe supported environment over several sessions.

Equine Therapy

Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy (EFP) is a form of therapy that involves interacting with horses as a way to enhance psychological healing. While not meant to replace traditional therapies, it serves as a supplemental treatment that can complement evidence-based approaches like:

● EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
● Mindfulness-Based Interventions
● Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
● Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
● Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)

At Mindful Therapies, sessions are led by Dr. Stephanie Taillefer, a registered psychologist with specialized training in equine-assisted psychotherapy.
