Trauma

Trauma causes unproductive, unresolved and distressing feelings generated by a past experience. The experience could be medical, sexual, developmental; it could have occurred at work, on assignment, at home or far in the past. Whatever its source, trauma haunts us with feelings of distress and keeps us from living the life we desire. We address trauma with a variety of evidence-based treatments, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Trauma, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Cognitive Processing Therapy and Prolonged Exposure to reduce symptoms over time.

Behaviour Change & Addictions

Despite our best knowledge and intentions, sometimes we behave in ways we know are unhealthy. Eliminating undesirable habits, patterns and behaviours has little to do with desire and will power, and much more to do with practical structures that support you in choosing to be your best self. We’ll help you not only understand why a behavior (like unhealthy eating, self-medicating, infidelity, gambling, risky behaviors etc.) continues, but work with you to create the goals and plans to achieve positive and sustainable change. We also support clients in overcoming addiction, or who are affected by a loved one’s addiction. We utilize a harm-reduction framework and specific therapies utilized for addictions treatment include motivational interviewing, structured relapse prevention, and solution-focused approaches.

Workplace Stress & Burnout

Stress at school or work can disrupt many areas of life: productivity, motivation, sleep, moods, relationships and health. You may find yourself over-extended or toiling without purpose, moving closer and closer to fatigue and burn-out. We’ll examine the roots of stress and frustration to identify ways to copy and strategies to resolve work issues. Therapeutic approaches to this work include positive psychology, solution-focused, cognitive behavioural therapies, and mindfulness.

Couples Counselling

Relationships have a complex chemistry that bubbles, boils and sometimes combusts. If you and your partner struggle with communication, agreeing on big issues, compatibility, fidelity, and growing together. Our couples therapists offer a supportive, safe space to communicate effectively with each other, so you can move toward solutions, resolution and improved/deepening connection. We have clinicians trained in Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) and the Gottman Method.

Life satisfaction & enhancement

Are you someone whose life ‘looks good on paper’, but you struggle with feelings of emptiness, longing, or unease? You may have achieved a significant goal, crossed a major threshold or be near a major life transition (new job, marriage, divorce or retirement…) and life feels uncertain and/or unfulfilling. Our clinicians provide a sounding board and support to find clarity, priority and purpose. We draw on mindfulness practices and positive psychology to help you create a fulfilling, meaningful and joyful life.

Coping, Thriving & Emotion Regulation

There are a host of causes for anxiety, depression, mood swings and exhausting irritability, which can affect your daily functioning or life satisfaction. Our therapies (mindfulness-based, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, solution-focused) offer a way to develop new skills and options for addressing your most challenging areas of life. Common areas addressed include assertiveness, communication, and regulating your internal emotional experience (anger, anxiousness, or apathy).

As a private clinic, we’re unable to handle emergency situations. If you are in crisis, please call the Mental Health Mobile Crisis Team at 902-429-8167 / 1-888-429-8167 (Toll Free), 911 or attend your nearest emergency department.
